Little Squirt Too Main

I have always had a fascination with boats. The idea that you could just sail off into the unknown. For me the freedom and independance are such a thrill. I had to have a boat that I could just take off in. If I did not want to come back I didn't have too.

Pocket Cruiser Little Squirt Too

To acheive my goal I figured the boat I got would have to meet the following criteria.

1. Less then 20ft. If the boat was any longer one person would not be able to beach and unbeach from shore. Also I wanted a boat that could go in the more confined rivers and inlets.

2. Originally I wanted the boat to have a elec engine. This would make the boat self sufficent. However this is not possible. A PC needs a lot of power to move. A 40lb thrust Trolling motor will only move a PC at 3mph. I concidered 3.5mph to be the slowest exceptable max speed, and I only have a 36lb thrust elec engine. I will have to get a 4hp gas engine. Supposedly this will give me a max speed of about 5mph. I will put one battery box against the forward bulkhead in the cabin. One solar cell on the aft bulkhead next to the cabin entrance on the port side. ( The same side as the engine.) The battery will be for the nav lights, interior lights, coffee maker, and food warmer.

3. The boat must have a cabin. I want to be able to just stop the boat and go to sleep at the end of the day.

4. The boat must be beachable. I am not a mocho sailer. When things really get rough I would rather be ashore.

CONCLUSIONS

APPEARANCE

I love the colour scheme of Dick Russells 124% PC in the picture. Imagine it smaller and with either Blue or Red under the lower rubrail and that is what Little Squirt Too will look like.
I took major liberties with a picture of Dick Russells boat. I removed the crew in the picture and changed the colours to show what Little Squirt Too will look like. I also made the boat look shorter to look more like a unmodified PC.

Here is the proposed schedule

Winter 2002

Cut the stringers
Build Keel
Cut out all pieces that are cut out before hand (Bottum of hull, Bulkheads, etc)
If assembly will fit out of basement door will put bottum deck on keel

Build Hull up to point where I have a motorized cruiser.

Winter 2003

Start building parts of sail rig which can be built in basement.

Spring/Summer/Fall 2004

Build pieces of sail rig which could not be built in basement over the winter.

Winter 2004

Odd jobs.

Summer 2005

Let's rock

I have altered another Picture of a Pocket Cruiser to look like what I hope Little Squirt Too will look like

UPDATES

02-DEC-02 I have discovered that a 36lb elec trolling motor is totally unexceptable for a PC. According to Scott Widmier who owns and built Suits Us the top speed he acheived with a 40lb thrust motor is 3mph. This means that if I put a 36lb motor on Little Squirt Too row boats and children strolling on shore will be going faster then I am. To see the discussion on the BYYB forum click here.

07-Mar-03 Purchased a 3 1/2HP Chrysler Outboard motor built in 1966 for $250.

8-Mar-03 Put what components of Little Squirt Too I had completed into some form of the finished shape by leaning them on assorted small boxes. I wanted a visual idea of how much room I would have.

Shows amount of room around openings to bow storage with battery in place.

I stretched out in the cabin area to demistrate how long it it.

Sat is the cabin to show head room. At least in relation to the cabin bulkhead

Took picture to show the amount of room in the cockpit. The toolbox I'm sitting on is the same heigh

Another view of the cockpit. This one makes it clearer how easy or not easy it is to look over the cabin
