Little Squirt Too Standing Rigging

Monday 15-March-04 - The plans call for installing the 10 inch by 1/2 inch eyebolt very late in the plans after the walls are put on. I had a lot of trouble with this stage when I mounted the bowsprit on my 3-in-1 so I am doing this right after the bulkheads are mounted before going any further. First I bought a inexpensive hole guide which I clamped to the front of the stem.

I then drilled a small guide hole using a 1/4 inch drill bit. This is my guide hole for the 1/2 inch bit which is the required hole. I will then put my eyebolt through with a wide washer on each end. I fingure any more then a 1 inch washer will get in the way of rounding off the edges. I will probably go with 3/4 inch.

18-May-04 Finished the mast support. Instead of the mast box in the plans I am using the system suggested in the book BOATBUILDING FOR BEGINNERS AND BEYOND BY JIM MICHALAK. Because there is no enclosed box I feel there is less chance of rot in that area. It will be easier to do maintenance there. The picture below is the mast support through the top deck.

The picture below is the support in the bottom.

The picture below is the frame around the opening to keep water from pouring down the hole.
