Little Squirt Too Trailer
11-July-04 Now that the boat is upside down and the edges are trimmed it is time to set up the support racks (bunks) for the trailer. I have purchased a utility kit from Canadian Tire and a Boat Conversion Kit. I have also purchased a crank that can be mounted on the front of the trailer and can use a rope or strap. I will probably start with just a rope. I also have a roller for the front. I was considering a roller on the back, but I figure it will cause too much trouble because of the large dip in the keel near the front of the boat. So for the bunks here is the plan. I want them to curve the same as the boat. I've discovered in books and in damage done to Little Squirt that straight bunks cause too much stress on a single point of a boat with a curved bottum. It seems the straight bunks that come with purchased trailers are designed for a V-bottumed fishing hull. I bought four pieces of 6 inch wide by 16 feet long boards. I will first place them on the upside down boat in the positions they would be when the boat is on the trailer. I will stack two on each side and then apply glue between them. I will then apply weight to force then to follow the shape of the hull and use screws so that they retain this shape.
23-Jul-04 Put some more paint on the trailer. To same time the trailer gets whatever paint happens to be on the roller when I'm doing the boat. Its ugly but fast.
